Processes:
A Techniques based on building up process
Clay modelling:
Before you start making something out of clay it is crucial to mould the clay so it has an even consistency without air bubbles. It should look like kneading bread. Secondly the wire skeleton or construction must be prepared in order to support the sculpture and make it stable. The skeleton which is inside of the sculpture is made out of bended aluminium wire and joined by binding wire. It is also called armature. Then you can start adding pieces of clay and shape the form of the sculpture. Make sure you keep your sculpture moistened and covered until you finish. The sculpture can be duplicated by casting into plaster or bronze. When sculpture is casted you can decorate it by doing patina which imitates other materials (wood, metal etc.) If it is meant to be a pottery or using natural clay for firing you can decorate it with colour glazes.
B, Techniques based on working from one block of material
This group is consisted of techniques such as wood carving, stone sculpting etc.
The process of sculpting starts from basic form and gradually reduces amount of material in order to get fine details. To carve or sculpt the material we use chisels and wooden sticks or a hammer.
C, Techniques of assemblage
Many materials such as plastic, metal, textiles, paper, cardboard, glass can be assembled into one piece. Basis of this technique is to join variety of materials or objects in order to make a sculpture. To join materials is used glue, soldering iron, wire, welding machine, hot air gun, hot-glue gun and sewing machine.
